You are probably thinking, why the freezing water? Why willingly subject yourself to sitting in freezing cold water? Because it offers the opportunity to be fully present in an extremely uncomfortable situation. When we get comfortable being uncomfortable we can tap into the power of our mind. Our mind manifests our reality. We can realize our greatest dreams or deny ourselves the opportunity. To live our fullest potential we must learn to harness the power of our mind and channel it in the direction of our choosing.

This special afternoon will be lead by Holly Davis and Tatiana Looney. We will be providing warm cacao to enjoy together afterwards.

DETAILS:

Saturday January 6th 1:30 - 4:00 pm

WHAT TO BRING
- Wear comfortable yoga/workout attire
- Yoga mat
- Water bottle
- Swimsuit or whatever you want to wear to plunge in
- Large towel to dry off with after you plunge
- Bathrobe so you have something cozy to be in while you are outside
- Warm clothes; hoodie, beanie, sweatpants to put on post plunge
- Your own mug for yummy post plunge tea/coffee

WHAT TO EXPECT

The event will run about 2.5 hours.
After a 10 minute introduction into the workshop, we will begin with yoga.  From there, we will move into breathwork and meditation to prepare our minds and body for the cold plunge.

We will take the plunge in a large tub in groups of 5 or 6.  We will stay in for 3 minutes. This is a collective event. We are in this together, supporting one another through the experience. After the plunge, we will enjoy cacao together. We will end with a closing circle.

HOW TO PREPARE

If you are nervous about being cold or just reeeeally don’t like being cold, start to mentally prepare yourself. It is helpful to have little pep talks with yourself.  Some of the following phrases might be helpful:

It’s only 3 minutes, I can handle the cold for 3 minutes

I’m doing this, my mind is made up, no need to have any more discussions with myself about not doing it.  (This line of thinking will be very beneficially in creating the mindset to just do it.  We tend to fixate on and get wrapped up in the story about why we shouldn’t.  So ending the conversation about why not is very important in setting your mind/intention on completing the task ahead).

I am capable of being uncomfortable

Make friends with the discomfort

We hope you join us for the special event! If you have any questions, please reach out.

In yoga, Prana energy is believed to be the essence of life that regulates our biological systems and is the key to physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. Pranayama is a yogic breathing practice designed to regulate Prana energy. In the same way yogic postures (asana) can lead to deeper mind-body connections and a sense of peacefulness, practicing pranayama also has the same effects. As explained in the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, “the breath is directly connected to the mind. Controlling the breath can bring peace and stability to the person who practices pranayama.”

This workshop includes an introduction to the philosophy of pranayama as taught by Sri B.K.S. Iyengar and several led pranayama practices in a variety of asana. Led by an Intermediate Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher and the co-owner of the Yoga Center of Chico, Tom Hess.

This extended practice is open to students and teachers; Registered Yoga Teachers can earn 3 CE hours through Yoga Alliance.

Trauma is more than psychological; it’s physical. The last two decades of neuroscience research supports trauma is stored in the body. Movement can release somatic responses in students and in movement-based teaching, teachers have the opportunity to support physical releases and aid students in redefining their relationship with their body and mind.

In this introductory workshop, you will learn about the neuroscience of trauma, the different types of trauma, how to establish resources for trauma survivors, and techniques to create safe, embodied experiences for your students. Whether you know which of your students have a trauma background or not, these tools will greatly improve the way you guide groups into their bodies and through your movement teachings.

Led by two trauma-informed yoga teachers: Danyel Hurd is a Registered Nurse and certified yoga teacher who trained in Levels 1 and 2 of Warriors at Ease; in addition to teaching yoga classes at The Pilates Barre, she also founded Yoga.911 where she teaches trauma informed yoga to emergency services personnel weekly. Chelsea West is a Registered Nurse and certified yoga teacher who received a Trauma-Informed Yoga Training certificate from YogaWorks; she continues to bring these teachings into her public yoga classes at The Pilates Barre.

Note: this workshop is for movement teachers only and not open to students; Registered Yoga Teachers can earn 2 CE hours through Yoga Alliance

The mind/body connection is truly incredible. When we experience trauma, or even day to day stressors, it is stored not only in our mind (psyche) and emotions, but also our body (soma). Unless we express the trauma and stress, it is repressed and suppressed and stored in our bodies. This can affect us in many ways including chronic pain and fatigues, depression and anxiety, migraines, mood disorders, etc.

Somatic Breathwork sessions utilize our bodies’ natural capability to heal through our breath. These are guided sessions, but allow space for your body and breath to express trapped trauma, pain, and stress.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Our bodies are incredible and know exactly what they need to release stress and trauma. This looks differently for every person and even every session. The most important thing when preparing  is to go in open to whatever it is that your body needs.

Wear comfortable clothing, as you will be laying down with your eyes closed.

Some people may lay still the entire time as things are happening internally, but your body may need to release trauma outwardly. This could look like, but is not limited to, crying, yelling, moving your arms or legs, laughing, moaning, yawning, coughing, and more. It may feel strange, but trust that your body knows what it needs.

During the session Morgan Chantelle will be leading you in a series of breath holds. The first half is focused on release, so the breathing will be fast, deep breaths in and out through your mouth. The breath holds will be at the top (meaning with air inside your belly and lungs). The second half is focused on integration, so the breaths will be long, steady breaths in and out through your nose. The breath holds will be at the bottom (with your lungs and belly completely empty).

The entire experience is 90 min, with 15 min of movement lead by one of our teachers before and after the Somatic Breathwork Class. We recommend creating space after your class for quiet, processing, and self-care. Before the class begins, Morgan will go over all of this information and answer any questions that you have.

Have you been wanting to deepen your understanding of Yoga & Meditation? Come spend some quality time with with one of our well seasoned instructors who will expertly guide you into the basics of how to approach a daily breathe centered Vinyasa Yoga & Meditation practice.

This workshop will cover: Sun Salutations, including a breakdown of each pose in the sequence, a handful of the most common poses found in modern Vinyasa Yoga classes as well as an introduction to the how/why of Breathwork & Meditation.

WHEN: Saturday, 11/5 from 2 - 4pm

COST: $40 for 2 hour workshop. *Unlimited Access Members receive 50% off workshop price.

** Please bring a mat if you have one.

STRETCH & RESTORE

We all need days off for muscle recovery. Unwind with this gentle stretch and restore class.

In this class, we will use foam rollers, massage balls and yoga straps to help apply pressure to areas of soft tissue (muscles and fascia) to stimulate the circulation of blood and oxygen and restore length of tissue.

The goal of this class is to walk away feeling fantastic both body and mind. When your body's connective tissue is hydrated, your whole body moves and feels better.
